Honoring CTLP's Pro bono Volunteers
Throughout our history, The Community Tax Law Project and our clients have benefited from the tremendous generosity of our panel of pro bono attorneys, enrolled agents, and CPAs. The selflessness of Virginia's community of tax professionals is the heart and soul of our program on behalf of low income taxpayers.
If we could have our way, each of the 150-plus volunteers on our pro bono panel would receive an award that expresses our appreciation for the many hours of advice and advocacy provided to our clients. Each of you enjoys our highest regard and appreciation for your generosity and your commitment to the rights of low income taxpayers.
Please join with us as we recognize a few people who exemplify all that is best in Virginia's tax professionals.
Pro bono Volunteer of the Year
Guy C. Crowgey, Esq. Richmond, VA
Our 2008 pro bono volunteer of the year is Guy Crowgey of the Richmond law firm Crowgey and Grossman. Guy has been a generous contributor of his time and expertise to CTLP clients for many years, and his commitment to the rights of low income taxpayers exemplifies the best of our many pro bono volunteer tax professionals.
In 2008, Guy represented several CTLP-referred taxpayers in their disputes with the IRS. He went "above and beyond" in one case in which the taxpayer was disabled and housebound in a rural community distant from Guy's Richmond office. In order to get some important documents signed and returned to the IRS, Guy had a staff member drive nearly 300 miles round trip to the taxpayer's home to obtain the needed signatures. Additionally, Guy accepted a complex case with some very short deadlines in mid-December and has already moved it along the road to favorable resolution.
For Guy's steadfast support of CTLP and his dedication to the needs of low income taxpayers, we are pleased to name him CTLP's 2008 Pro Bono Volunteer of the Year.
Volunteers
Pro Bono volunteers have been the lifeblood of CTLP's program of assistance to Virginia's low income taxpayers since our inception in 1992. In 2008, Virginia attorneys, enrolled agents, and CPAs provided assistance to taxpayers in 63 cases referred to them by CTLP. Each one of them deserves recognition for their generosity and professionalism.
